Unmasking AI in the Online Classroom: A NOLA-Inspired Mardi Gras Workshop
Thursday March 6, 2025 1:15pm - 2:45pm EST
Step into the heart of New Orleans, Louisiana (NOLA) as we "unmask" the power of AI in the online classroom during this Mardi Gras-inspired workshop! Just like the dazzling masks of a NOLA parade, AI tools can reveal hidden layers of efficiency, creativity, and engagement for both seasoned and new teachers. In this immersive session, participants will learn how to harness cutting-edge AI tools to design lessons and activities that are as dynamic as a NOLA Mardi Gras celebration.
Presenters will guide participants through NOLA’s vibrant digital landscape, unveiling their favorite AI tools—such as ChatGPT, Claude, and Diffit for Teachers—that streamline the lesson planning process and enhance student engagement. Just as Mardi Gras parades are meticulously organized behind the scenes, these AI tools allow seasoned teachers to work more efficiently, reducing the time spent on routine tasks like creating lessons, grading, or personalizing student feedback. This newfound efficiency frees up more time to focus on what matters most: fostering deeper student connections and crafting innovative learning experiences.
Online Catawba teachers will showcase how AI elevates classroom engagement while enhancing teacher productivity. From sparking critical thinking to captivating students' attention during presentations and follow-up activities, these AI tools take on much of the heavy lifting, enabling teachers to focus on meaningful interactions and student growth. And just as NOLA’s sense of community is vital to its Mardi Gras festivities, this session will also explore the importance of digital citizenship, guiding educators on how to instill personal responsibility when using AI in the classroom.
The session will culminate with a collaborative "Krewe Creation Time," where participants will dive into AI-powered lesson creation, benefiting from the support of seasoned educators. With AI tools at their fingertips, teachers will experience firsthand how these technologies can make them more efficient while still maintaining high-quality, student-centered learning experiences. Just like the Krewe that builds the Mardi Gras magic, participants will leave ready to integrate these AI tools into their classrooms, saving time while delivering impactful lessons.

Let the Good Times Roll with Student Accountability!
Laissez les bon temps rouler (Let the good times roll) with Student Accountability! Are you ready to make your students the kings and queens of their own academic success? Look no further than Student Data Journals and student-led conferences with parents — your perfect krewe for helping students adapt, think critically, and take personal responsibility for both their academic and personal growth. Just like a Mardi Gras parade, we’re covering all aspects of their life to create well-rounded individuals who will one day add positively to society!
You’ll leave this session with your very own custom-built Student Data Journal, created using Google Sheets, which tracks data from the classroom (academically) and at home (personally). The beads are great, but this tool is golden for student growth!
